The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System is a certification program designed to support "green" building design, construction, and operations. It promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality. Intertek is one of a select few certification bodies that have been approved by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) to review LEED project submissions as part of a two-year pilot program (news release). By leveraging Intertek’s substantial technical expertise, USGBC/GBCI can continue to effectively meet the increased demand for LEED certification, while developing a third-party certification scheme. For more information on the LEED program, including how to register a building project, visit www.usgbc.org/leed or www.gbci.org. |
